ABSTRACT | ||
According
to Sāṅkhya philosophy, the cause of the world is Prakr̥ti. The world exists in
Prakr̥ti before its creation in an unexpressed form. The world is the result of
Prakr̥ti. Prakr̥ti becomes the world. The world is indeed expressed by
Prakr̥ti, but this expression does not occur unless Prakr̥ti
is connected to Puruṣa. The connection between Prakr̥ti and Puruṣa is absolutely necessary for the
expression of the world. The expression of the world cannot be for Prakr̥ti
alone, because Prakr̥ti is senseless and unconscious. It is not possible for it
to work without the control of a conscious being. Again, the expression of the
world cannot be for Puruṣa alone. Because Puruṣa is
exclusively silent, passive, and a witness. Puruṣa has intelligence but no
power to act. When Prakr̥ti's power to act and Puruṣa's intelligence come
together, the process of expression begins. But here the question arises - how
can Puruṣa and Prakr̥ti, who are opposites, come
together? In answer to this question,
the Sāṅkhya sect says that just as the cripple (paṅgu) and the blind (andha)
can seek each other's help to get out of the forest, similarly, unconscious
Prakr̥ti and passive Puruṣa can come together to help each other to achieve
their goals. As a result of this mutual proximity, the needs of both are
fulfilled. Puruṣa's needs Prakr̥ti for the knowledge, enjoyment, and power of a
different beings. Again, Prakr̥ti also needs Puruṣa to be seen and enjoyed,
because without a seer and a consumer, there is no sight and enjoyment. Puruṣa's
vision, enjoyment, and power are the essence of Prakr̥ti. In this way, the
connection between Prakr̥ti and Puruṣa leads to the creation or expression
process of the world, which is the subject of my article. | ||
