ABSTRACT | ||
Employees play a crucial role in the smooth functioning of any organization. To enhance their initiative and productivity, organizations must address their expectations and demands. Various motivation theories, such as Maslow’s Need Hierarchy Theory, Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory, Vroom’s Expectancy Theory, and McGregor’s Theory X and Theory Y, have been developed to understand employee needs and drive motivation. However, due to the distinct social, economic, political, and cultural environments of the East and the West, the motivations and expectations of employees in these regions differ significantly. Consequently, Western-centric theories may not fully explain the factors that drive motivation among employees in Eastern countries. Unlike Western theorists, Swami Vivekananda did not propose a structured theory or model for organizational management. Instead, he focused on addressing India's social problems, emphasizing the specific needs and demands of its people. Both public and private organizations exist to meet societal needs. Since employees are an integral part of society, their expectations and motivations are shaped by various socio-economic factors. Many of the socio-economic challenges that existed during Swami Vivekananda’s time persist today, though their manifestations have evolved. Discrimination based on caste, religion, gender, and wealth remains a pressing issue. Organizations can foster employee motivation by promoting contemporary education, character development, women's dignity, social equality, self-confidence, and self-reliance. By addressing these expectations and demands, organizations can enhance employee motivation, leading to increased productivity and a positive impact on overall organizational success. | ||
