Once upon a time, Rankini was a terrifying Goddess. A number of folktales about this her are still prevalent in the surrounding villages of Jadugoda. The regional kingdom of Dhalbhumgarh is connected with this Goddess. Rankini is regarded as the tutelary deity. With the expansion of the Brahmanical culture in this region, Goddess Rankini has now been transformed into 'Kali', a very popular deity of Hinduism.
