ABSTRACT | ||
Wittgenstein is a renowned philosopher of language. Philosophers of language believe that humans speak about the world and worldly objects through the use of language. Therefore, the only way to understand the structure of thoughts or experiences related to the world and its objects is to understand the structure of language. The way to understand this structure is through the analysis of language. However, the key question here is: What is the relationship between language and the world? In addressing this relationship, Wittgenstein presents a theory of meaning known as the "Picture Theory" in his work Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus. According to him, “The proposition only asserts something, in so far as it is a picture.” In other words, since a proposition is a kind of picture, it is possible to describe something through a proposition. This paper attempts to clarify, as precisely as possible, the conditions under which a proposition can be a picture of a state of affairs or an event. | ||
