Conflict Between Upper and Lower Classes: Social Realities in Mahasweta Devi’s Stories Suprita Nath, Independent Research Scholar, Sribhumi, Assam, India
ABSTRACT | ||
Mahasweta Devi was not only a writer but also a committed social worker. She closely observed the everyday lives, struggles, and injustices faced by marginalized people. Drawing from these experiences, she raised her voice against dominant upper-caste communities who often oppressed the lower castes. She empowered the oppressed to take a stand against injustice. Her stories, such as ‘Bhat’, ‘Draupadi’, and ‘Bichon’, reflect the harsh realities of society. Through her writing, she gave voice to the voiceless and exposed societal truths. Mahasweta Devi possessed the power to inspire social change, and her legacy continues to encourage us to stand against injustice.
