ABSTRACT | ||
In the flow of time, the changing circumstances of the country and era inevitably transform the forms of art and literature. Therefore, it is natural that the profound resonances created in the thoughts and consciousness of people in a specific region during a particular period are reflected in literature. In this context, this study attempts to perceive the resonances of this era in Bengali novels of the last two decades of the previous century. The context of this era has been derived from the novels of 10 novelists, comprising 14 novels. These novels reflect the state of the marginalized people in society, the nature of Operation Barga and the Panchayati system, the impact of the Ram Mandir controversy and the nationwide communal riots, the beginning of globalization, and its influence on Bengali life and consciousness, among other multifaceted areas. In these 20 long years, the transformation in the life, consciousness, and values of Indians, particularly Bengalis, has been rapid. The market economy and the mesmerizing spectacle of Globalization have gradually dominated the proposals and reports of the world, making it a subject of intense study and scrutiny in every branch of Social Science. Although novels are fictional narratives, they are not entirely imaginary; their proximity to reality is a primary condition for such creative endeavors. Therefore, through this study, the vibrant history of this particular era, as reflected in Bengali novels, has been explored in terms of its relevance to time and society. | ||
