Philosophy as the Queen and Mother of All Sciences: A Survey Khokan Sk, Research Scholar, Department of Philosophy, The University of Burdwan, West Bengal, India
ABSTRACT | ||
From ancient times, philosophy has been regarded as the queen and mother of all sciences. At a stage when human knowledge had not yet been divided into distinct disciplines, philosophy functioned as the comprehensive field of intellectual inquiry. Although mathematics, physics, biology, sociology, and other sciences later emerged as independent disciplines, their fundamental concepts, methods, and guiding questions were rooted in philosophy. The aim of this survey is to analyze how philosophy has shaped the foundational questions, conceptual frameworks, and epistemological bases of the sciences, and to explain, with reasoned arguments, why philosophy is still regarded as the mother of all sciences. The paper argues that philosophy is not merely speculative or doctrinal but serves as a critical and integrative framework that guides scientific reasoning, innovation, and self-reflection. Thus, philosophy remains indispensable as both the origin and ongoing foundation of all scientific disciplines.
