ABSTRACT | ||
Even though homosexuality is an ancient
issue, there is still hesitation in the expression of the issue in the
socio-culture or art-literature of the time. Similarly, we reach the ancient
Greek island of Lesbos in search of the source of female homosexuality, but the
subject is largely ignored in contemporary social thought. But its existence is
strongly present in human society. A few selected novels of Bengali literature
based on such thought are reviewed; Along with that, the importance and
acceptance of the issue in the society has also been shed light. There are
eight novels in chronological order — ‘Jadubangsho’ by Bimal Kar, ‘Jara Bristite Bhijechilo’ by Joy Goswami,
‘Chander Gaaye Chand’ by Tilottama Majumdar, ‘Abhijyan’ by Nabaneeta Devasen,
‘Anuprobesh’ by Trishna Basak, ‘Prem Samokami’ by Himadrikishor Dasgupta,
‘Biscuit’ by Tanwi Halder and ‘Sab Path Brittakar’ by Ushasi Chakraborty. The
novels discuss not only the representation of lesbianism in fiction, but also
the evolution of attitudes towards the subject in society. | ||
