The Stories of Sachin Das: The Struggle for Life of the Tigers and Widowed Women of Sundarbans
Samaresh Bag, Department of Bengali, University of Burdwan, West Bengal, India
ABSTRACT
When  the word Sundarbans comes to mind, we think of it as forest or jungle. The Sundarbans is an island surrounded by mangroves at the mouth of the Ganges and Brahmaputra. In short, the Sundarbans is a region full of thrills in the water and the jungle. It is the largest delta in the world. It is said that in ancient times it was called the Angiri forest. There is no exact information about when it became the Sundarbans after going through many paths of evolution. It is believed that the name Sundarbans was derived from the fact that a large number of Sundari trees grow there. However, there is controversy about this naming. But whatever the controversy, what was once a forest has now been cut down to a large extent and is now a township. And people have converted the forest into a township. And this township is today’s Sundarbans. In the Sundarbans, forests and roads are located side by side and the salty water there meets the sea through narrow and thick river creeks. The island land of the Sundarbans is shaken by the tides, and there is a constant struggle for survival. There are crocodiles in the water and tigers on the shore. But even with crocodiles in the water and tigers on the land, the people are constantly fighting there for survival. And if the man among the family members is lost in that fight, how difficult it becomes for a woman to survive alone. Through how many adversities she has to move forward, to survive. This article has tried to highlight that life pain.
