Anjan Pal, Asst. Prof, Dept. of Bengali, Lumding College, Lumding,  Assam, India
ABSTRACT
Literature is the mirror of society. Therefore, different aspects of society are always highlighted by different writers in literature. Ramapada Chowdhury was one such a notable writer of Bengali literature who had highlighted various aspects of society such as human values, despair, crisis etc. in his works. He was basically personification of the middle class, yet he did not forget to describe to the so-called lower class such as indigenous people (Adivasi) of the society. Although he appeared in Bengali literature as a short story writer, he also gained considerable fame as novelist. In fact, he had thoroughly discussed the issues of lower class, middle class, position of women in society etc. in his fiction. Ramapada Chowdhury (28.12.1922 – 29.07.2018) was born in Kharagpur West Bengal. His father was Taraprasanna Chowdhury and mother Durgasundari Devi. His father worked in the railways and thus the family often moved from one place to another. That is why he had the opportunity to expose the life of several deferent parts of India. Moreover, during his childhood period Ramapada with his friends in the evening often moved to nearby villages to observe the lifestyle of Adivasi people. In the article I will try to discuss on three novels (Dwiper Nam Tia rang, Aranya Adim, Dubsantar) of Ramapada Chowdhury, where he has exposed the life of indigenous communities.
