ABSTRACT
In Sanskrit Dramatic Literature, Bhavabhuti was renowned Sanskrit scholar, poet and playwright of 8th century India. He is regarded as the second most revered figure after Kalidasa. Just as the drama ‘Abhigyan Shakuntalam’ written by Kalidasa is highly esteemed by the people of the world, similarly Bhavbhuti’s ‘Uttararamcharitam’ is also the best of all plays in Sanskrit Literature. His other significant works are ‘Malati Madhav’ and ‘Mahavircharita’. Nature is the source of all humans inspiration. In fact, Nature and human beings are harmonious and they are related to each other mutually. Since the beginning of the creation, there has been an inseparable and close relation between them.. Different types of dreamy imaginations and thoughts are awakened in the inner world of man in the multiple beauty of nature. Many epic poets have composed various poems, epics and plays based on those imaginations and thoughts with their touch of reality. They have described the sweet and tender image of nature. But Bhavabhuti is not a traditional stereotype. His description of nature is slightly different level. He has depicted the natural scenes with the combination of the terrifying and horrible form of nature, though he had 0 great skill in painting natural landscapes in all his plays. In ‘Uttararamcharita’ and ‘Malatimadhav’ he was quintessential in describing the dreadful scene of the dark forest, the solitude of the rough mountain peaks, the description of the sometimes fierce animals, the softness of the humming of the waterfall and the frightful cremation scene and so on. In short, his natural beauty was manifold.
