ABSTRACT | ||
The presence of nature in world literature is particularly
important. The relationship between nature and humans is as intimate as that
between literature and nature. Therefore, we see that writer, enchanted by the
beauty of nature and absorbed in joy, have adeptly expressed the innermost
thoughts of their hearts in their literary creations. The reflection of nature
is evident in poetry, stories, novels, plays, and various branches of
literature. In different branches of literature, nature emerges both as a
symbol of beauty and abundance and as a representation of hardship and
adversity. It is also deeply intertwined with human life and emotions. Thus,
the characters in literature have felt a sense of unity with nature. In the
case of Bengali literature, the presence of nature is not just an environmental
backdrop, but a reflection of the human soul. Especially in Bengali short
stories, nature sometimes serves as the backdrop of the story and at other
times reflects the feelings of the characters. The diversity and beauty of
nature play a significant role in the artistic depiction of stories. On one
hand, natural scenes, the monsoon season, or the silence of winter—these
natural imageries create the atmosphere of the narrative. On the other hand,
contemporary short stories have placed importance on environmental issues and
the thought of nature's protection.
In light of the above title, we will examine
the short stories of Assam's storytellers and see how much nature contributes
to the construction of the story's backdrop. We will explore how the
storyteller has reinterpreted the relationship between humans and nature, and
to what extent the theme of nature's protection has captured the conscious
mindset of the storytellers. The various elements of Assam's natural beauty
have been brought to light through the storyteller’s perspective. At the same
time, the narrative also reflects how much of nature's beauty and diversity is
being destroyed due to modern development. Furthermore, nature is becoming a
symbol of various emotions within the human mind in these stories. Based on
these themes, there will be an attempt to analyze the underlying meaning and
significance of the stories. |
