ABSTRACT | ||
Poetic drama is a new form of poetry created by modern people who are aware of their personality. It can be said that poetic drama is like a duet of drama and poetry. From ancient Greek drama to the Elizabethan era of England in the 16th century, all plays have been written in poetry. The 18th century was the era of the flourishing of prose in English literature. In the 19th century, romantic poets tried to write poetic drama. Yeats and Michael Synge experimented with poetic drama in Western literature. T. S. Eliot, Christopher Fry, Stephen Spender, Maxwell Anderson, Garcia Lorca, etc. have praised poetic drama. In Bengali literature, poetic drama was initiated by Rabindranath Tagore. Later notables are Mohitlal Majumdar, Ajit Dutta, Sushil Roy, Amiya Chakraborty, Buddhadev Bose, Girishankar, Dilip Roy, Mangalacaran Chattopadhyay, Ram Bose, Krishna Dhar, Nirendranath Chakraborty and Jagannath Chakraborty, Saratkumar Mukherjee, Sunil Gangopadhyay, Purnendu Patri, Pranabendu Dasgupta, etc. Poetic drama has gradually expanded its scope through the joint efforts of Western and Bengali literature. | ||
