Sanjib Hansda, Assistant Professor, Vidyasagar Mahavidyalaya, West Bengal, India
ABSTRACT
‘Aranyer Adhikar’ is the famous novel of Mahasweta Devi. The novel was published in 1977. This novel depicts the tribal struggle against British rule. Birsa Munda is the main character of this novel. This novel describes the life of Birsa Munda and the context of the uprising led by him. This novel has twenty chapter and one conclusion. The novel is written in the center of the Birsa Munda uprising. Birsa died in police torture after being arrested for rebellion. The novel ended up with the death of Birsa.  However, the history of Birsa's ancestors in the entire novel, Birsa's birth, childhood, adolescence and rebellion, etc. have been fully discussed.
Birsa was born on Thursday. That's why his name was named Birsa. Because this is the custom in the Munda society. He is the son of Sugana Munda. His mother's name is Karami. He could play the flute and Twilla from an early age. They were extremely poor. They adopted Christianity to avoid this poverty. After the coming of the British government, the indigenous Munda began to be expelled from his own homeland and agricultural land. They protest but do not get justice. Birsa decided that he would overthrow the British government. Birsa calls for struggle. The name of that struggle is ‘Ulgulan’. In the struggle, Birsa and ‘Birsaite’ forces were defeated. But this rebellion has raised many questions in civilized society.
