ABSTRACT | ||
Mallika Sengupta is a
prominent name in the field of women's rights and feminist writings within the
modern Bengali literary world. As a voice of protest, she produced a
reinterpretation of the Ramayana in her novel Sitayan. In this work, Sita’s
character challenges the ironic fate of women, reflecting on their eternal
destiny through the lens of contemporary consciousness. Kaushalya is portrayed
as a woman infused with modern feminist ideals in Sengupta's narrative. Sitayan
serves as a unique biography of an extraordinary woman, highlighting Sita’s
character within the modern prose that explores her life cycle.
