ABSTRACT | ||
In the world of Bengali literature, one woman writer whose name deserves to be mentioned with respect for her contributions to children's and young adult literature is Lila Majumdar. Through the path of literature, she sowed the seeds of ethics and imagination in the minds of children. With simple, clear language and a vivid imagination, her writing became a delightful medium for young readers. In her book ‘Sob Bhuture’ (All Ghost Stories), she did not instill any negative or frightening thoughts in children's minds. The ghosts she portrayed are not terrifying; though they dwell in the afterlife, they appear in this world with the appearance of their past lives. But as the story progresses, their actions reveal that they are indeed spirits, not humans. She drew her literary material from familiar, everyday social realities. Depending on the subject or context of the stories, she skillfully incorporated the sorrows of life into the narrative. In fact, she tried to present harsh truths of life to children in a light-hearted manner. In all the stories in ‘Sob Bhuture’, the friendship between ghosts and humans becomes a central theme, where each complements the other. In this book, the spirits not only avoid causing harm, but also become companions in times of trouble, developing beautiful friendships with humans. | ||
