Politics in the Selected Short Stories of Fiction Writer Abul Bashar: A Review Masud Ali Dewan, Researcher, Department of Bengali, Ranchi University, Jharkhand, India
ABSTRACT | ||
Political thinking is shaped by social injustice and deprivation, with the trend of social change developing around the social and economic status of the people. Political consciousness is more evident in rural society. The political atmosphere has been present since the early days of Bengali short story writing. Upon observing the nature of Bengali short stories, it is clear that political consciousness has had a significant influence. Leftist ideologies entered the short story from the earliest days of independence, and their influence gradually waned in the post-independence period, particularly during the sixth and seventh decades of the twentieth century. Abul Bashar is a writer from a different stream in Bengali fiction. He is a prolific writer, known for his storytelling, prose, creativity, and artistic expression. Due to social inequality and financial oppression, he became actively involved in politics. His political involvement allowed him to gain firsthand experience of rural life, bringing him closer to the common people and the land. He spent ten years in politics without contributing to any branch of literature. However, disillusioned with political ideologies, he re-entered the literary world. As a result, politics occupies a significant portion of his stories. These political stories are the product of the experience he gained while being directly involved in politics.
