ABSTRACT | ||
In Jaina metaphysics the notion of substance occupies a prominent position. Substance in Jainism has been divided into two categories- astikāya and anastikāya. According to them, time is the only anastikāya substance because it does not occupy any space. The existence of time can be inferred from the different qualities of substance like continuity, action, remoteness, farness, oldness, newness etc. Jaina philosophers think that though we divide time into different units for the convenience of our daily life, but it is considered one, indivisible and permanent from transcendental view. Kant, a German philosopher, considers time as a priori forms of sensibility. For him, time is not an empirical idea and we cannot think or imagine anything independent of time. By the exposition of metaphysical and transcendental, he wants to prove time as a priori intuition. In this paper, I shall focus to make a comparative study between Kantian and Jaina approach on time. | ||
