ABSTRACT | ||
Jibanananda Das's 'Kavitar Katha' is not a book of poetry; it is a book of his essays. This book was published by Signet Press in 1965. In fact, Jibanananda Das' 'Kavitar Katha' is a collection of essays on poetry or poetic thought. As extraordinary as Jibanananda Das was, he was not very ordinary as a prose writer either. For a true lover of literature, his prose work is attractive due to the novelty of the subject, the courage of the expression, and the distinctiveness of the prose language. His book 'Kavitar Katha' is not just a collection of essays; it is a groundbreaking document in the history of Bengali poetry. Through this book, Jibanananda has opened a new horizon of poetic thought, where the nature of poetry, its artistic nature, and its relationship with society and culture are deeply analyzed. He overcame the influence of Rabindranath Tagore and the conflict of modernity and found a unique path for Bengali poetry, where the ‘soul’ and ‘body’ of poetry find fulfillment in the combination of imagination, thought and experience. The essays in the book ‘Kavitar Kotha’ highlight the solid foundation of Jibanananda’s philosophy of poetry - where he sought to establish the responsibility of the poet, the social relevance of poetry and the inevitable truth of art. This line of thought of his is still a guide to Bengali literature today, because here not only the theory of poetry is discussed, but also the direction of the infinite possibilities of art is implied. This book is not only a document of the past - it also touches the future of Bengali poetry, where the conflict between the eternal truth of art and modernity gives rise to a new creativity. | ||
