River-Centric Myths and Modern Narratives in Indian Literature Dr. Samaresh Mondal, Independent Researcher, Kolkata, West Bengal, India
ABSTRACT | ||
This article focuses on river-centered Bengali novels, exploring their development within the broader context of Indian literature while incorporating the perspective of Bangladeshi novels to highlight how public perceptions have evolved over time. Works such as Manik Bandopadhyay’s Padma Nadir Majhi, Debesh Roy’s Tistaparer Brittant, Samaresh Basu’s Ganga, Humayun Kabir’s Nadi o Nari, and Advaita Mallavarman’s Titas Ekti Nadir Naam are discussed to illustrate how river-centric narratives, rooted in folk beliefs and myths, gradually transition into new interpretations and ideologies. The article aims to analyze this transformation, emphasizing the evolving interaction between tradition and contemporary perspectives.
