ABSTRACT | ||
In the tradition of Bengali drama and theatre, playwright Ajitesh Bandopadhyay shines as a pioneering figure. Among the many intellectual and creative dramatists in the long history of Bengali theatre, he stands out for his unique contributions. His play Nana Ronger Din (The Days of Many Hues) is a Bengali adaptation of Anton Chekhov's The Swan Song and is a one-act drama. A work of deep emotional resonance, Nana Ronger Din revolves around the wistful nostalgia that emerges from the fading brilliance of youthful talent, inevitably eroded by time. The protagonist, a once-famous actor, is exhausted by the weight of his past glories. Although the play is based on Chekhov’s Swan Song, Bandopadhyay leaves his own distinct artistic imprint on the adaptation. The play asserts that true talent never perishes. Even in the declining years of Rajanikanta, the central character, his artistic essence transcends age and mortality. By embracing emptiness, he surpasses death, dissolving into the vastness of the universe while leaving behind his creative legacy. Nana Ronger Din captures the essence of artistic immortality, ensuring that the multifaceted colors of life continue to shine in the hearts of its audience. | ||
